| 元旦 (yuándàn) New Year's Day is the first day of the New Year. On the modern Gregorian calendar 阳历(yánglì), it is celebrated 庆祝(qìngzhù) on January 1. On New Year's Day, people in certain countries gather 聚集(jùjí) on beaches and run into the water to celebrate the New Year. Countries such as Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, United States and Australia are the most popular for this tradition.
