Chinese New Year 2010 is coming up on Feb. 14th, 2010, which is the same day as the Valentine's Day. According to Lunar Year Calendar, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger.
元旦 (yuándàn) New Year's Day is the first day of the New Year. On the modern Gregorian calendar 阳历(yánglì), it is celebrated 庆祝(qìngzhù) on January 1. On New Year's Day, people in certain countries gather 聚集(jùjí) on beaches and run into the water to celebrate the New Year. Countries such as Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, United States and Australia are the most popular for this tradition. The Tournament of Roses Parade 玫瑰花车游行(méiguīhuāchē yóuxíng), which is also better known as the Rose Parade, is America's New Year's Day celebration. It is a festival of flowers, music, equestrians 骑手(qíshŏu), and a college football game on New Year's Day; The New Year's Day Parade 元旦游行(yuándànyóuxíng) is held in London. Performances include acts from each of the city's 32 boroughs, as well as entertainment from around the world. In China, people usually hold some evening party to celebrate New Year's Day. Especially in schools or companies, this is one common way of celebration for Chinese New Year.

Happy New Year refers to "元旦快乐(yuándàn kuàilè)" in Chinese, which is one of New Year's Day greetings. The character 元(yuán) means first; 旦(dàn) means day; 快(kuài) means fast and 乐() means happiness. People also say "新年快乐(xīnnián kuàilè)," which means "Happy New Year" on New Year's Day.
春节(chūnjié) Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most traditional and grand festival in China. It falls on the first of every January in the lunar calendar. 除夕(chúxī) Chinese New Year's Eve is the last day of last year and means ringing out the old year and ringing in the new. There are three main activities in Chinese New Year's Eve: having 团圆饭(tuányuánfàn) family reunion dinner or 年夜饭(niányèfàn) the dinner on new year's evening, 祭祀(jìsì) offering sacrifices to ancestors and 守夜(shŏuyè) staying up. You can taste all kinds of food for Chinese New Year including different dishes, which includes dumplings and new-year's rice-cake which is very popular in the south of China. When staying up, children can gain 压岁钱(yāsuìqián) gift money from their 长辈(zhăngbèi) seniorities, symbolizing good wishes for safeness. Many people also will put up 春联(chūnlián) Spring Festival couplets and New Year paintings on their doors and walls this day. 大年初一(dà nián chū yī) The first day of Chinese New Year is a time when families 拜年(bàinián) visit the oldest and most senior members of their extended family, usually their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. Celebrations for Chinese New Year vary from different places, but basically in China people will invite 舞龙舞狮(wǔlóng wǔshī) a dragon and lion dance troupe and 放鞭炮(fàng biānpào) set off fireworks and firecrackers as symbolic rituals to usher in the Lunar New Year as well as to evict bad spirits from the premises.
On Chinese New Year, you can hear all kinds of greetings for Chinese New Year, such as "新年好(xīnnián hăo) Happy New Year!" and "新年快乐(xīnnián kuàilè) Happy New Year!" There are other common greetings such as "恭喜发财(gōngxǐ fācái)," which means "Wish You Great Prosperity!" and "虎年吉祥(hǔnián jíxiáng)," which means "Good Luck in the Year of the Tiger!," for the upcoming Year of the Tiger has become very popular. And now, text messages are a popular way for people to greet each other. Text message greetings for Chinese New Year are usually used by many people.

1. 欢欢喜喜迎新年,万事如意平安年,扬眉吐气顺心年,梦想成真发财年,事业辉煌成功年,祝君岁岁有好年!
   
    Huānhuānxǐxǐ yíng xīnnián, wànshìrúyì píng'ān nián, yángméitǔqì shùnxīn nián, mèngxiăngchéngzhēn fācái
    nián, shìyè huīhuáng chénggōng nián, zhù jūn suìsuì yŏu hăo nián!

    Welcome the New Year happily! All will be well in the safe year; feel proud and elated in the satisfactory year; hope
    your dreams come true in the wealthy year; Wish you a brilliant career in the successful year. Wish you well in the
    years to come!

2. 新年祝福你,好运陪着你,财神跟着你,名车属于你,霉运躲着你,喜事围绕你,我呢时时伴着你。
    
    Xīnnián zhùfú nǐ, hăoyùn péizhe nǐ, cáishén gēnzhe nǐ, míngchē shǔyú nǐ, méiyùn duŏzhe nǐ, xǐshì wéirào nǐ,
    wŏ ne shíshí bànzhe nǐ.

    Bless you in the New Year with good luck accompanying you with wealth following you, a name brand car belonging
    to you, misfortune avoiding you, and happy occasions around you. And for me, I will often accompany you.

3. 新春佳节,祝你虎年大吉大利,大显身手,虎气冲天!
    Xīnchūn jiājié, zhù nǐ hǔnián dàjí dàlì, dàxiănshēnshŏu, hǔqìchōngtiān.
    Wish you good luck in the Chinese New Year of the Tiger. Take the spotlight and fully show yourself.
